2010 Festival Highlights
The Montreal Chamber Music Festival will celebrate the bicentennials of Chopin and Schumann and the centennial of Samuel Barber - the last by presenting the first public performance since 1928 of the finale of a youthful violin sonata that was long thought to be lost.
"It's sweeping, with a lot of active things in the piano part.", artistic director Denis Brott said of this movement, which will be given its 21st-century premiere on May 25 by the violinist Rachel Barton Pine and the pianist who played a role in its rediscovery, Lara Downes.

The festival in St. James United Church opens May 6 with music by Chopin and Brahms. A Brahms marathon closes the event on May 29.
Four festival regulars - pianists Anton Kuerti and Ignat Solzhenitsyn, violinist Ilya Kaler and violist Marcus Thompson - focus on Schumann on May 11, 13, and 15. A pre-Mother's Day program on May 8 includes Schubert's Trout Quintet, Saint-Saëns's Carnival of the Animals (narration by Jean Marchand) and Alexander Brott's high-spirited Canadian classic Critics' Corner.
Original scores by the American composer-pianist Stephen Prutsman are featured in a cinematic program including a screening of Buster Keaton's Sherlock Jr. Among the jazz performers heard on Friday evenings is the 2010 Grammy-winning vocalist Kurt Elling on May 21.
