  5. PROJECT INITIATOR

    Festival de Musique de Chambre Montréal (1995 to present)
    Conceived and established a chamber music festival in Montreal bringing together world class Canadian and foreign artists to perform mixed chamber music in unique settings. This festival forged a first-time partnership between the City of Montreal and corporate sponsors and advertisers. The festival has grown from 5 concerts in 1995 to over 20. The Quebec Music Council has awarded two Opus Prizes to the Festival for Producer of the Year (1999) and Concert of the Year (2000).

    National Residency Program (1987,1988)
    Conceived and established a national program of Chamber Music Workshops, performances and residencies for the Orford String Quartet. NRP became part of the Arts Development Program within TransCanada PipeLine's "Prologue to Profession" project. This program completed residencies in St. John's (Newfoundland), Wolfville (Nova Scotia), Montreal, and Calgary in its first season. NRP consisted of intensive coaching of both individuals and chamber groups, allowing students to participate in formal and informal sessions with the Orford Quartet and/or its individual members. Each residency culminated in a joint concert performance.

    The Canada Council Instrument Bank (1987)
    Played a leading role in creating the Instrument Bank of the Canada Council and in acquiring its first instrument, a 1706 Tecchler cello. In recognition of his efforts the Canada Council gave Denis Brott the loan of this instrument for the duration of his professional career.

    Orford String Quartet and Friends Series (1986)
    Founder and Artistic Director of the Orford String Quartet and Friends Concert Series at Toronto's Harbourfront. This four-concert series, broadcast nationally on the CBC's Arts National program, featured world premieres, internationally acclaimed performers, and the Orford Quartet. OSQ and Friends became an annual event, which later became known as Orford in Springtime.

  8. AFFILIATE ARTIST

    Awarded the prestigious Affiliate Artists Award in 1978, and was appointed Artist-in-Residence in Texas for the 1979/80 season. This residency, sponsored by Alcoa, consisted of over 100 "Informances" in diverse locations, from factory lunchrooms and Senior Citizen homes to bank lobbies, schools and concert halls, during an intensive eight week period. This program is unique because it bases the selection of its artists not only on their performance but also on their verbal communication skills since each artist serves as a spokesman for his art form relating it to the human experience.
