String Ensemble of over 20 instruments plus Actors!

Sunday, June 21st at 3:30 p.m. is the blockbuster closing event of the Festival’s 25th Anniversary.  It features the world premiere of a script about the life of Gustav Mahler as experienced through two masterworks he transcribed for string ensemble of over 20 musicians.  Hear Beethoven’s Opus 95 String Quartet and Schubert’s haunting Death and the Maiden String Quartet as performed by virtuosi from around the world.  Opening the program is Bach’s most beautiful Double Violin Concerto featuring Barnabás Kelemen and Canada’s own, Tina Bouey, first violin of the Ulysses Quartet accompanied by the conductorless ensemble.  The commissioned text by actor/author Gregory Hlady will weave a storyline through the music and bring new meaning to Mahler’s relationship with the two musical giants, Beethoven and Schubert.  This will be a fitting closing event and tribute to the Montreal Chamber Music Festival’s 25th Anniversary Celebration!
