A LETTER FROM JULIA TURNER BRENNAN, PRESIDENT OF THE FESTIVAL
Dear Fellow Music Lovers,
I would like to wish you strength and health during these challenging times. I sincerely hope that you and your loved ones are in good health and are staying safe. The Montreal Chamber Music Festival is following the developments of COVID-19 very closely. The health and safety of our audience, our donors, our employees and the artists are at the heart of our priorities.
We, as all other organizations both large and small, must operate within the guidelines and directives of governmental authorities, whose attempts to cope with and mitigate the effects of this worldwide pandemic, are evolving daily.
As you know, our 2020 Festival had been planned for June 12th to 21st. The government recently cancelled all cultural events until July, the 2nd. In light of this restriction, of the uncertainty of this evolving pandemic and given the utmost priority of keeping everyone connected to our Festival safe, we have made the painful and inevitable decision to cancel our 2020 Festival.
We are in the process of forging ahead with planning our 2021 season with an anchoring event featuring Pinchas Zuckerman; where feasible, we are re-engaging our artists for the 2021 season and, without any doubt, our Artistic Director, Denis Brott, will spearhead then organize a spectacular season.
At a time like the present, the arts have a unique role to play in helping all of us connect, stay grounded and be able to cope. This is a time when society can be thankful to its arts institutions and it is also a time when they need society’s support.
On behalf of the Montreal Chamber Music Festival, I would like to express our true gratitude for your support this year and in past seasons. Your donations, your solidarity and commitment are helping us get through this crisis today and are enabling us to look positively to the future.
With your support, we can move forward with confidence and look toward a brighter year in 2021.
Sincerely and with wishes for good health,
Julia Turner Brennan
