The Montreal Chamber Music Festival will focus this year on Beethoven, with several excursions to other composers. The anchor is a six-concert traversal in Pollack Hall of Beethoven’s string quartets by the Dover Quartet, one of the more talked-about younger ensembles on this side of the Atlantic. The dates are May 26 and 28 and June 2, 4, 9 and 11.
The Rolston String Quartet will join the Dovers (their fellow laureates of the Banff International String Quartet Competition) on June 8 for Mendelssohn’s inevitable Octet and the Quebec première of a quartet by Zosha Di Castri written for last summer’s skirmish in Banff.
