“What is a String Quartet?” is an original youth production by the Montreal Chamber Music Festival. A musical show which gives children ages 4 to 12 the opportunity to discover the world of chamber music in a lively, humorous way, is designed to be presented in French and English primary schools.
“What is a String Quartet?” features charismatic stand-up comedian and clarinetist Christopher Hall and the talented Andara String Quartet, made up of young up-and-coming Quebec musicians.
Offered in a 50-minute format (without intermission), this playful and intimate show presents the instruments in the string family, the roles of the members of a quartet, and the various sounds of string and wind instruments.
“What is a String Quartet?” introduces children to the repertoire Classics from Mozart to the Beatles, with reference to traditional folksongs arranged for string quartet and clarinet. Throughout the concert, Christopher Hall tells funny and witty anecdotes about composers, musicians and the repertoire, all in a spirit of respect and camaraderie.
